After 15 months of Israeli bombardment of Gaza, the enclave has witnessed the tragic loss of over 47, 000 Palestinians lives, the collapse of critical infrastructure in health, education, and housing, as well as the displacement of millions. The humanitarian crisis has been exacerbated by the near-total breakdown of aid delivery. As the international community grapples with its responsibilities to respond, an increasing number of voices are condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide.

PRIO is pleased to invite you to a seminar with Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In this seminar, Albanese will share her firsthand experiences and insights from her work, focusing on the significant legal and political challenges facing the UN in Palestine.

The seminar will address several key issues, including the challenges surrounding the UN’s access to the occupied Palestinian territories, the humanitarian implications of the ban on UNRWA, and the ongoing cases before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) related to genocide and humanitarian aid access. Albanese will also provide an update on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, and reflect on the potential of removing Israel’s seat at the UN in response to violations of international human rights law.

The conversation will be moderated by Jørgen Jensehaugen, Senior Researcher at PRIO.

This event is a collaboration between the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Palestinakomiteen Norge.
